On the George Sutton Toastmasters website, we’re always talking about tips for better public speaking. The first thing that comes to mind when you think of the phrase “public speaking” is probably standing in front of a group of people and giving a speech.

But, public speaking is just one component of an overall skill known as good communication.

Being an active member of a quality Toastmasters club will help you improve all aspects of communication far beyond only getting in front of a group of people and speaking.

If you’re thinking development of communication skills is a rather outdated thing to strive for, we encourage you to consider these business trends for 2020 by Jack Zoellner.

The post suggests:

1. Getting to know your workers and what they’re really good at will be even more difficult because freelance workers will make up a larger percentage of a company’s workforce. Freelance helpers are not bound to the company by health benefits. Plus, they typically have other projects they’re working on at the same time they’re spending their days or hours working for any particular company. Loyalty to any particular company for a freelancer is far less than the devotion an employee has toward their employer.

How Toastmasters Helps: Improving your communication skills will help you better articulate your company’s need for focus and completion when working with freelancers.

2. More employees working remotely means you rarely or never see them face-to-face.

How Toastmasters Helps: Toastmasters encourages participation in online video and video groups. Live video based Toastmasters clubs exist where you can practice your communication skills by way of video.

3. More temporary team members will flow in and out of the team throughout the duration of a project.

How Toastmasters Helps: Many Toastmasters clubs receive two or more visitors at every meeting. As an active member, you will get practice meeting new people at nearly every meeting. When they become members, you will be an essential part of that new member being successful in his or her Toastmasters experience. This is great practice for when your team at work receives a new member.

To sum up, Toastmasters will help you become a better overall communicator. The result is that your managers will see your improved contributions and you could easily find yourself up for a promotion because those with great communication skills are the ones who rise through the ranks of business.

That’s our prediction for 2020.
