Rich Hopkins speaking at Toastmasters contest. This Thursday, August 14, 2014, the amazing Rich Hopkins will visit our Toastmasters club as a guest speaker and deliver his 5-7 minute contest speech in preparation for the Toastmasters International championship where he will be competing next week in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!

Rich has competed at his own club contest level, his area, then division, then district over the past several months. Next week, he will compete against 91 contestants divided by 9 semi-finals, and then will move on to compete against 8 other finalists for the title of World Champion of Public Speaking!

When I asked Rich this morning, “What are you thinking about in preparation for next week?” here was his response:

“Jet-lag, getting my suit pressed in KL, and the use of a 21m x 10m stage. Everything else is pretty much locked down.”

This will be Rich’s 8th appearance in the semi finals over the past 13 years. He advanced to the Finals in 2006 where he took 3rd place and then again in 2008. Could this year be HIS year to take the big trophy home?

Come show your local support and get 5-7 minutes of pro-level speaking training that you can’t buy at any store or seminar! Just by WATCHING Rich’s speech, YOU will become a better speaker!

Discover what it takes to craft and deliver a truly spectacular 5-7 minute speech by watching Rich practice his contest speech. Bring your friends. Bring your co-workers. The general public is welcome.

Our event will begin on Thursday, 11:30am, like it does every week, and will conclude at 1:00pm sharp. If you have never visited a Toastmasters club, please know that this is a 90-minute event. Plan to arrive five or ten minutes before 11:30 so we can meet you and adjust your schedule so that you can attend until we adjourn.

Our event location is at the Aurora Hills Golf Course in an enclosed room attached to The Tin Cup restaurant at the main clubhouse. Address and directions can be found on our About page.

Event format will be the same as it is each week at our club. We will begin with club members participating in Table Topics where they will be asked to speak extemporaneously for 1-2 minutes on a topic they did not know they would be asked to speak about. The next section will include prepared speeches by two of our club members. Then Rich will deliver his contest speech.

After the speeches have completed, we will have club members provide formal evaluations of the two club member speeches and then a 5-minute open evaluation/inspiration session for Rich’s speech.

This is truly a rare opportunity to have a speaker of Rich’s caliber speak to our group as well as it is a privilege and honor to support him in his effort to keep this speech fresh in his mind and practiced so that he can deliver it with grace and power at the International Championship next week in Kuala Lumpur. We hope to see you there!
